Legislation By State
Initiated by the July 4, 2010, death of a Yorkshire terrier mix dog, members of the Lexington City Council approved tighter animal laws at its meeting Monday night, effective immediately.
After a motion by Councilwoman Becky Klass, the council voted unanimously to OK the new animal laws during the governing body's bimonthly meeting Monday night.
The new ordinance consists of guidelines for setbacks of dog runs and kennels near streets and sidewalks, and makes illegal the ownership of any dangerous or potentially dangerous animal, as determined by the Lexington Police Department.
